Judith Downes

Judith has been the Chair of Bank Australia since 2014, having joined the Board in 2012.  She has over 40 years of experience as a director and has worked on boards in banking, life insurance, education, property, superannuation and medical technology.  Her board experience includes listed and public companies, global organisations and not for profit organisations.

Previously she worked in senior executive roles at ANZ Bank, including CFO and COO for the Institutional Division, and Group General Manager Finance.  Other past positions include Director, ING Australia, Director Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, and member, Financial Reporting Council of Australia.

Judith is currently a director of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership.  She is a past chair of the Governing Board Forum of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values and a former director of ImpediMed Limited, Clean TeQ Holdings Limited and The Spinal Research Institute.

Judith is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Victoria, of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, of CPA Australia and of Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand.  She has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), a Diploma of Education and a Graduate Diploma of Business (Accounting).
