Andrew Thorburn

Chairman, Sentient Impact Group

Andrew has more than 30 years’ experience in banking, including as CEO of NAB from 2014-19 and prior to that CEO of Bank of NZ from 2008-14.

He is heavily involved in impact investing, both through Sentient, and as an Executive Director with For Purpose Investment Partners, a social impact fund. As part of this, he is Chair of Catalyst Education, a leading provider of early childhood, aged and disability care vocational training.

Andrew believes there is a strong appetite from investors to do good, as well as do well, and that there does not need to be a trade-off between the two. He is a passionate advocate for delivering impact at scale, and he actively works alongside others in the impact investing community to help solve some of humanity’s biggest environmental and social problems.

As a Senior Advisor with Boston Consulting Group, Andrew assists global banking clients undertake purposeful change, and is Chair of City on a Hill, a Melbourne based church. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland, an MBA from the University of Durham in the U.K. and is a Senior Fellow of FINSIA.
